Meet the Stickwitch
The Stickwitch of Wexford (AKA Cerys Crowe & Goody Crowe) is Christine M. Scott. A native of Boardman, Ohio, Christine received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Youngstown State University.
Stickwitch is an expression of her love of finding magic in the mundane, and practicality in the mystical, all coming from a place of deep reverence for and connectedness with nature (especially woodlands) and the exploration of the unknown. The creation of her various goods brings her joy and she hopes that it brings others the same.
Professionally, Christine has worked as a professional graphic and web designer for over 30 years. She freelances under the name Clever Crow Consulting and Design and serves clients in a variety of industries.
She is the designer for Crossroads: Folk Horror in the United States zine and for the Locus Award nominated and twice-Hugo nominated The Deadlands: A Journal of Ends and Beginnings.
She is the co-publisher (along with David T. Neal) and creative director of Nosetouch Press and Analog Ghosts and has co-edited seven anthologies, including the succesful Fiends in the Furrows folk horror antholgies.
A life-long craftsperson, Christine creates handpainted and embellished masks as Lady of May, linocut folk art prints as Cerys Crowe, found object jewelry and other items as Magpie’s Mischief, and designs journals and other goods as Jane Dee. in 2016, several of her handcrafted pieces were included in Game of Thrones: The Compendium, a book printed by Chronicle Books that was used in support of season 6 of HBO's GAME OF THRONES.
Since 2007, Christine has been designing digital ephemera for digital scrapbooking under the name Miss Crow’s Magical Emporium.
As Vrana (visual mixed media art), she explores the concept that even as the world becomes increasingly awash in monolithic technological advances, the human spirit that seeks the mysterious, mystic, and handcrafted still endures as a vestige and a portent. She describes her work as “Modern Mysticism,” and expresses her perspectives, preoccupations, and esoteric explorations in paintings, prints, illustrations, and assemblage pieces. It’s a studied-yet-sympathetic synthesis of the contrary aspects of tech, technical skill, artistic passion, and visionary vistas into a unified whole that is simultaneously iconic, primal, resonant, and entrancingly elusive.
Using found objects as well as traditional media, she incorporates them into her creations, seeking to honor the mystical through modern means.
A reader of all genre fiction, Christine has a particular fondness for mystery, fantasy, folk horror, gothic tales, ghosts, and witches—send any good ghost stories (real or fictional) her way. She also savors a wide range of nonfiction fare.
An unabashed anglophile, her interests also include art and philosophy of art, decorative arts, architecture, music, costume design, bookbinding, printmaking, photography, paranormal and occult studies, history, jewelry making, old buildings, historical preservation, and living history documentaries. She loves clever turns of phrases, haunted and mystical places, woodlands, and libraries. She takes her coffee blonde. A complete list of her endeavors can be found here: christinemariescott.com
